Family day 2003 was attended by a select group that beat the weather and mosquitoes at the old picnic ground at the Georges River Recreation Area. The day was better attended than the previous year, however, we all know that we can find the family spirit to make future picnics roaring successes. Tory Macinante
10th April 1915 - 28th September 2003 We were saddened to be informed of the passing of Tory Macinante of 5 Greenacre Road, Wollongong on the 28th September 2003 at Gertrude Abbott Nursing Home.
We have held the picnic at Cattle Duffer's Flat, Picnic Point since the inaugural picnic in 1980. Family members no longer find the site suitable for a number of reasons including the general condition of the park, toilet facilities, mosquitos and entry fees. The Picnic Point site no longer represents the closest venue for many of our group. As such, this year we have moved the picnic to Bicentennial Park, Homebush.     DG Unfortunately, Tory had suffered from a long degenerative condition in his latter years, which had greatly reduced his quality of life. Tory as he was affectionately known was a man of little height but with a very big heart. He was a high school teacher where many of the students were taller then he was, but he commanded a great deal of respect. He was a keen photographer and developer. Tory recorded a lot of the family history in his many photographs and short films. Another great man now lost for all time. GB

Picnic 2005 !

SUNDAY 6th MARCH, 2005

Keep this special day in mind! Picnic 2005 is the 25th Annual Macinante Picnic in 2005. This is a real milestone. Note it in your diary, highlight it on your fridge door, punch it into your personal organiser or, graffiti on the back of the "dunny door". A Milestone!   DG

The Star Princess

Mollie, Tom and Joan Thorp (of Tweed Heads and family of Tory Macinante, Wollongong) enjoyed a Christmas and new Years cruise on the Star Princess. They left Sydney on the 20th December 2003 for an extended session of real pampering. Every now an then one just has to “get off the merry-go-round”. The trip proved so successful that they are saving up for a 2004 cruise.   GB

Henry Rowe Cuddy

16th March 1917 - 2nd November 2004
Henry Rowe Cuddy passed away at St George Hospital due to breathing and other complications on the 2nd November 2003. Rowe as he was affectionately known, was a dedicated family man and never missed the family picnic. He appeared to know everyone and had a keen interest in the Macinante family of whom he married into with his bride Ann Macinante. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Rowe. He was always available when one of the family needed him. He will be surely missed by all those who knew him.   GB

Going Strong

At 76 Nicola (Norm) is still going strong. Most Saturday mornings you will find him at the Sydney Fruit Markets selling produce at his mate Peter's stall. The market culture imbedded its mark in Norm's blood many years ago and has become a ritual for him. He just cannot resist the challenge. The early start, the claim to the best parking spot (because he is in the know) and the camaraderie, blends with the fertile aromas and the clamorous cacophony of the bargain hunters to provide Norm with a rich and rewarding day. Norm takes great delight in striking a bargain with the ever present press for bartering that has been a way of life for the fruit growers since the early days when the markets were in the heart of Sydney.   DG

LA VITA

Caminu 'nta na strata,

E poi, caminu,

Success Stories

Mark Gentle
Mark opened his first SUBWAY franchise in the Forest Food Court of Hurstville Westfield Shopping Town on the Sunday 21st December, 2003. Prior to this, in October 2003, he spent two "solid" weeks at Subway Head Office in Brisbane attending the rigorous franchisee training course. Mark attained a 100% pass mark in the final exam. The opening of the store was delayed for a myriad of reasons. However, with "green" staff and managers, and his first bite at retail, the opening on the Sunday before Christmas 2003 went ahead with a bang. A well earned success. Best Wishes an Good Luck !   DG
