Nino & Carmela Macinante

This photo was taken in the Milk Bar next to the old picture theatre, King's Theatre, on the corner of Old South Head Road and Dudley Road, Rose Bay. The shop didn't have a name, just a milk bar next door to the Theatre.

At interval time in the picture show, all the youngest would race into the milk bar and buy a 3d (threpence) bag full of goodies such as must sticks, bobbies, clinkers and creamy carmel.
4d (fourpence) brought a double headed icecream, which was dipped in Chocolate. The originanl choc-top.

Another of Nino's specialities was Lemon Squash made with fresh lemons.

Nino & Carmela's Fruit shop was across the road at 669A Old South Head Road, where they lived at the back of the shop.

It is belived that Nino was known as "Mr Mac" by the locals.
